In late 2008, Makani Kai moved into its new home, a spacious and purpose-built facility at 130 Iolana Place at the Honolulu International Airport. The new, two-story structure allows for the expansion of our operations.

“The building is dedicated to our business, so we are much better able to service our customers and provide them with a premier experience,” says Richard Schuman. “Our customers deserve a well-designed, comfortable and quiet place prior to and following their flight and this new facility provides that.”

The building includes 8,000 square feet under roof plus 28,000 square feet of ramp space, enough to accommodate three to four aircraft with ease.

The facility also includes a hangar and maintenance area, a large lobby/waiting area, a retail area, a conference room and training area, a full kitchen and other amenities.

The lobby and retail areas feature flat screen televisions with satellite uplinks to carry live sporting events and other entertainment. Traffic flow in these areas was carefully considered in order to better handle a larger number of customers. The walls and ceiling are double insulted to minimize noise and make cooling more efficient. Koa Veneer flooring, granite counter tops, and tile in the larger, ADA-accessible restrooms lend a quality feel to the interior, as does a specially designed a 300-glallon salt-water aquarium.
